Whatever is honorable...

Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, let your mind dwell on these things.
Philippians 4:8

I hope you enjoyed thinking about true things yesterday.  Today, let's look at the second thing we are supposed to let our minds dwell on - whatever is honorable.  It can also be translated - whatever is honest.  As I studied this word and what it means in the original language, it seemed like honorable ideas and people are the focus.  What kind of ideas and people?  Good question!

This phrase refers to ideas and people that bring respect and convey an impression of long-term goodness and benevolence.  So, these are ideas and people who have been around for awhile and have consistently produced good results that bring respect.  I can think of several people who would fit this description.  My dad was one of them.  He was nice to everyone he met and was respected by all his family, friends and anyone with whom he did business.  When he passed away, over 500 people showed up to his memorial service.  More would have come, but there was no more parking available.  We were amazed by the number of stories of Dad's kindness that came from people in all walks of life.  One of my favorite unexpected stories was from a server at the local McDonalds.  The server said that they would all miss him because he was so nice to them when he came in for his morning coffee.  Dad was an honorable man.

Many times benevolent ideas are turned into programs that are effective and do so much good in our communities.  Other ideas turned into our constitution and provide us the freedoms we enjoy in this country.  I think you get the idea.  What honorable things, ideas or people are a part of your life?

Decor
The guest bathroom is almost finished.  I just need to make a valance for the window.  That will happen next pay day...

Before: (Sorry, I had already removed things off the vanity and had begun remodeling when I remembered to take a picture...)

 After:

I'm getting pretty good at texturing.  It's a lot of steps, but well worth the effort.  First, I had to strip the wallpaper.  I thought it would be easy because so much of it was coming off on its own.  But, no!  My fingernails are just now recuperating! Then, a layer of Kilz followed by texture with joint compound.  Finally, two coats of soft gray paint with primer in it.

The lamp on the stack of antique books was put back where it was before, along with the liquid soap dispenser.  But, we moved the towel ring to the opposite wall.  It just makes more sense.  I could never get the streaks and smears off the old mirror, so the new mirror was a great find from Kirkland's at 50% off.  The carved brown wood frame adds more texture to the room.  My honey put in a new faucet that matches the mirror frame and the metal of the light fixture.  By the way, the light fixture originally was shiny gold that we spray painted brown.  It and the new faucet go so much better with the towel ring.  I would love to antique the cabinets and put some nice handles and knobs on them.  Maybe, some day...

Tomorrow, I'll post pictures of the decorations on the left side of the vanity. Simple, pretty and practical.

Today's Recipe - Cool Summer Salad

1/4 cup olive oil
1/4 cup orange juice
2 Tbsp sugar or 2 packets stevia

Mix the salad ingredients together in a large bowl.  Just before serving, mix dressing items and pour over salad, tossing well.
