Whatever is lovely...

Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, let your mind dwell on these things.
Philippians 4:8

I really like today's word - lovely.  Even though it seems like an old-fashioned word, it's one of those timeless words that coveys its meaning when you say it. In this phrase in the original Greek, lovely means friendly towards, acceptable, have affection for.

We generally apply this word to descriptions of things, but the meaning of lovely in this phrase can also infer relationships between people.  Take time this weekend to make a list of all the people (aquaintances, friends or family) you know who are lovely.  Thank God for them and their friendship.  Think about choosing one a day and send a note of appreciation (it can be snail mail, email, text, facebook...) to that person until you have done so with every person on your list.  What a lovely thing to do!

Vacation Pics
Because we spent some time on the coast, we spotted a few lighthouses, which I love because they represent warning and hope...just like God's Word.

Today's Recipe - Favorite Broccoli Salad

This salad is a summer favorite and can be served as a meal

1 bunch broccoli, separated into florets
1 head cauliflower, separated into florets
bacon strips, fried and crumbled ( I use natural, uncured bacon)
1 cup chopped seeded tomatoes
2 hard-cooked eggs, sliced
1 cup raisins or craisins
1 cup mayonnaise or Miracle Whip
1/3 cups sugar or 3 packets stevia
2 Tbsp apple cider vinegar

In a large salad bowl, combine broccoli, cauliflower, bacon, tomatoes, eggs, and raisins or craisins.  In another bowl, combine mayonnaise, sugar and vinegar; mix until smooth.  Just before serving, pour over salad and gently toss until everything is coated in the dressing.  Makes 6 servings
