Whatever is right...

Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, let your mind dwell on these things.
Philippians 4:8

In a world full of fantasy and daydreaming, this verse gives us a list of things to think about that are wrapped in peace (more on that next week).  The third listing is whatever is right.  Now, this phrase has an interesting meaning.  I assumed that it meant the opposite of wrong.  Well...kind of, but not really.  If you go back to the original Greek, this means whatever is equitable, innocent or holy

Equitable - dealing fairly and equally with all concerned.
Innocent - lacking guilt through lack of knowledge of evil, harmless in intention.
Holy - set apart to the service of God.

Wow!  One little word means that much?  Yep!  This is why I love doing word studies.  We miss so much if we don't take Scripture back to the original languages.  Oops!  Crawled up on my soap box for a minute...

Take a minute or two and think about the things or people you could list under each of these definitions.  When you are finished, reflect on your state of mind.  Anyone feeling some peace?

Decor

Here's the promised picture of the other side of the vanity.  I purchased the tall apothecary jar on sale at Kirkland's and the two smaller jars at Hobby Lobby at 50% off.  The small jeweled clock went from the right side of the vanity to the left.  The clear glass jars needed a little touch of color.  Having dealt with fear for so much of my life, I love the artwork that I also found at Kirkland's on sale.

The jars are not only pretty, but functional as well.  And because they are clear glass, they don't take up that much room visually or make the vanity look cluttered. I think I'm going to unwrap all those little hotel soaps my honey brings home from business trips and put them in the tall apothecary jar with the larger bars of soap for our overnight guests. My girls always need cotton balls to remove fingernail polish.  And cotton swabs come in handy with the little ones.

Today's Recipe - Chicken Enchilada Salad
I got the idea for this recipe from a salad at the Cheesecake Factory. I'm not going to put specific amounts for the salad ingredients so you can make the amount your family will eat. This salad would look delicious with each item layered in a trifle dish or clear glass bowl.  Yum!

shredded cabbage
shredded lettuce
thinly sliced baby spinach
cilantro
frozen petite corn, thawed
tomatoes, cut in small chunks
black beans
cooked chicken breasts, cubed

Dressing:
2 avocados, smashed
2 cups sour cream
lime juice of 1/2 lime
Tabasco, a few drops to taste
1/4 cup whipping cream
1 Tbsp garlic salt
